Nerds Unplugged is an annual get-together that brings together friends (of the nerd variety) in a setting predetermined by the group. The location is usually a lake of some sort in which fishing, skiiing, wakeboarding, BBQing, swimming, poker playing, drinking and a lot of bullshitting takes place. The first Nerds Unplugged was started in 2005, the location was Possum Kingdom Lake.
The people involved in this “movement” are nerds brought together by a past IT job that have moved on in life, only to meet and greet new nerds. It is those new nerds that will grow Nerds Unplugged each year. Nerds Unplugged is an invite-only event that will take place once a year (unless funds allow it to be more frequent) with the first invites going to those that attended the year before. All other invites will be nominated and approved by the group (of nerds).
The mission of Nerds Unplugged is to “unplug” from our IT heavy lifestyles, leave all of it at home and escape for an extended weekend. The goal is to have fun with friends that we would normally not be able to see or speak with in person on a regular basis. Obviously, some of this luxury - but bringing everyone together to accomplish this is why Nerds Unplugged was begun.
